transitive verb

1. to move (en general); to drive (mecánicamente)

 

el fútbol profesional mueve mucho dinero -> a lot of money changes hands in the world of professional soccer

 

2. to shake (menear, agitar) (caja, sonajero); to wave (bandera)

 

la vaca movía la cola -> the cow was swishing its tail

el perro movía la cola -> the dog was wagging its tail

mover la cabeza -> to nod; (afirmativamente) to shake (negativamente)

 

3. (impulsar)

 

mover a alguien a hacer algo -> to prompt somebody to do something

¿qué te movió a hacerlo? -> what made you do it?, what prompted you to do it?

mover a alguien a compasión -> to excite somebody's sympathy o pity

 

4. to do something about (hacer trámites con)
